Tax Manager
Grayson & Associates, P.C. is a newly founded CPA firm launched in May 2026 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We serve clients across a variety of industries, with a particular focus on construction contractors and not-for-profit organizations, along with real estate, manufacturing, and other industries. As a growing firm, we are building a team of high-quality professionals and offer a genuine path to leadership, and ultimately partnership, for the right people. We are selectively growing an A+ client base and are looking to add one or two strong hires as we build out our audit and tax practices.
This is a full-time, hybrid role for a Tax Manager, based in our Murfreesboro office (require at least 2–3 days per week in-office). We use CCH Axcess for tax preparation and workflow, and are looking for someone who can help lead a growing tax practice, supervise tax staff, and build strong client relationships. Our tax growth strategy prioritizes quality over quantity: we are focused on serving business owners and their related entities with sophisticated planning and compliance needs, particularly in construction and the not-for-profit sector, rather than growing a large volume of stand-alone individual returns.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and review tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, estates/trusts, and not-for-profit organizations, with an emphasis on construction contractor and NPO clients
- Supervise, train, and mentor tax staff and seniors, contributing to their technical and professional growth
- Coordinate scheduling and workflow with support staff to obtain client information in a timely manner and keep busy season low-stress for the team
- Serve as a primary point of contact for client tax planning meetings and ongoing communication
- Direct and manage IRS and state tax authority correspondence
- Identify and advise on tax planning opportunities for business-owner clients
- Use CCH Axcess Tax and related software for return preparation, review, and workflow management
- Contribute to firm growth through client service excellence and business development
Requirements:
- CPA license is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting; a Master's degree in Taxation is a plus
- 4+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting
- Experience with construction contractor or not-for-profit tax returns preferred
- Experience with CCH Axcess or similar professional tax software preferred
- Strong supervisory, organizational, and client relationship skills
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience
- Firm-paid health, vision, and dental insurance
- A genuine path to advancement, including partnership potential, at a growing firm
- The opportunity to help shape the culture, systems, and client base of a new firm from the ground up
- Most Friday's off during summer months
- Hybrid work schedule
